I think it was interesting that this article focus on the idea of people being "deprived" and that someone could have their "intelligence wrongly judged" because they are not able to see things in a visual manner. To someone who only sees in visual ideas then yes, I could understand where they would be coming from to say that people are missing out because that is all they know. To someone who thinks in a more mathematical way or auditory manner, they probably would not think they are missing anything.
I think the idea of the grass always being greener on the other side applies to this situation. It is easy to have a certain ability and look at someone who doesn't have that ability and think they are missing something. All the while, that same person, with a different ability, might be looking at you and thinking the same thing because you lack the abilities they have.

Art in my life
Looking back through my years of elementary and high school I didn't think art had played a major role in my life. I realized after thinking about it though, that I did a lot of art outside of school.
Growing up, I can remember coloring with my brothers for hours and painting these already drawn large wall hangings that my mom would buy for us. I remember sitting at our kitchen table creating tie dye t-shirts with my basketball team during the season and making posters for my older brothers soccer games with my friends.
Formally, art class was pretty intense in school. High school I remember having tests on artists and their different styles of art. We would learn about an artists and then have to do our own piece using his/her style. I remember my teacher in elementary school and that he would always draw cartoon like pictures of people's faces. He also let us create murals on the walls around the school, which I thought was awesome at the time. It's neat to go back now and be able to say that I helped to draw a mural on the school's walls.
