Art in my life

Looking back through my years of elementary and high school I didn't think art had played a major role in my life. I realized after thinking about it though, that I did a lot of art outside of school.

Growing up, I can remember coloring with my brothers for hours and painting these already drawn large wall hangings that my mom would buy for us. I remember sitting at our kitchen table creating tie dye t-shirts with my basketball team during the season and making posters for my older brothers soccer games with my friends.

Formally, art class was pretty intense in school. High school I remember having tests on artists and their different styles of art. We would learn about an artists and then have to do our own piece using his/her style. I remember my teacher in elementary school and that he would always draw cartoon like pictures of people's faces. He also let us create murals on the walls around the school, which I thought was awesome at the time. It's neat to go back now and be able to say that I helped to draw a mural on the school's walls.

Wow Jillian...I'm glad you had an opportunity to remember all of your art learning, formal and informal. Think of how you could translate those experiences for your students in your future classroom!
